  • Skrillex feat. Damian Marley & Cham - Get Up, Stand Up

In a day when musicians are limited by a multitude of categorizations, Damian Marley reminds us that music isn’t really as confined to genres as we perceive. As is evident by his father’s 1977 album with The Wailers, ‘Exodus’ affirms that reggae music had elements of electronica decades before the term became ubiquitous. Similarly, both dubstep and dub before it have reggae influences showing us that one generation’s artists inevitably feeds into another generation’s music. Carrying on his family’s legacy, Damian Marley performs a cover of his father’s 1973 protest song with Peter Tosh and The Wailers, “Get Up, Stand Up.”

  • Eagle Rock to release ‘Uprising Live!’ DVD/CD from 1980 Dortmund concert

Bob Marley - Reggae - today - reggaetoday

On November 24, 2014, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Uprising Live! by Bob Marley on DVD, DVD + CD set, and Digital Video (pre-book order date October 31). This is the first ever DVD release of this classic concert, which originally aired on the famed German television series Rockpalast, from Bob Marley’s final tour.

The Uprising Tour ran in Europe from May 30th to July 13th 1980 with five further dates in the USA in September. It was Bob Marley’s last tour before his tragically early passing in May 1981, at the age of just 36. The tour was in support of the Uprising album, (released June 10th, 1980) and just a few days later, this show would be filmed from Dortmund’s Westfalen Stadium in Germeny. Now, Rockpalast is presented here on DVD for the first time, with footage fully restored under the supervision of Cedella Marley and Ziggy Marley.

On Uprising Live!, Bob Marley is in superb form and deliver a set full of energy and charisma, including the icon songs “No Woman, No Cry,” “Exodus,” “I Shot The Sheriff,” “Redemption Song,” “Is This Love,” “Jamming,” “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Could This Be Love” and many more. The show opens with a short set by the I Threes – Marley’s backing vocalists – who traditionally would perform a few songs before Marley took the stage.

February 6th 2015 will be, what would have been, Bob Marley’s 70th birthday and, with very few Bob Marley live concerts available on DVD, Uprising Live! will be a welcome addition for any fan.

  • Bob Marley & The Wailers - Easy Skanking In Boston ’78

Bob Marley’s 70th birthday year (2015) will include a variety of releases and events to commemorate the legend, his work and iconic impact. Over the course of the year, his legacy will be remembered by new releases of rare and unreleased material as well as fan favorite deluxe editions of his most memorable work. The first release will be available on February 17. BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS – EASY SKANKING IN BOSTON ’78, features two historic live shows from Boston’s Music Hall, June 8, 1978.  This new and unreleased performance is from the Marley family giving unprecedented access for the first time to their personal material from their private collections and their vaults. The album will be available on blu-ray/cd combo pack as well as dvd/cd and standalone cd versions. Additional newly created animated material will also be a part of this release, marking the first time the family has incorporated this technology into any official Marley releases.

The video footage was shot with a hand-held camera by a fan that Marley allowed to sit right in front of the stage. The result is remarkable imagery that captures Marley from just a few feet away, allowing one to experience the intimacy of his set. While the cinematographer was shooting with film and forced to change rolls of tape, the gaps in the live footage have been augmented with specially created animation over the existing audio. The animation video elements were produced and created by the animation team of S77 whose credits include recent projects for Bruno Mars, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Disney, ESPN and many others. The 46-minute video includes seven of the 13 songs in the full set.

Highlights of the performance include a lively “Jammin’” and “The Heathen,” a song Marley and the band didn’t perform during the second set. The show features them at their most comfortable, truly enjoying themselves in the spotlight, basking in the appreciation of the audience.

  • Bob Marley "One Love" – Official fan-made music video

Enjoy this brand new music, made by fans, for the fans, as part of Ben & Jerry’s, #SatisfyMyBowl #Legend30 project.

Back in October, Ben & Jerry’s launched a new, Marley-inspired ice cream flavor called Satisfy My Bowl. Consisting of Banana ice cream with caramel, cookie swirls, graham cracker crumbles and chocolate peace signs, Satisfy My Bowl is currently a limited-edition release available in the UK as well as selection countries in the EU. Additionally, proceeds from the sales of Satisfy My Bowl will go to support the 1Love Foundation and PYE‘s joint, collaborative youth empowerment camp for underserved children in Jamaica.

To celebrate the partnership – along with this past Summer’s 30th anniversary re-release of Legend – Ben & Jerry’s, Universal and the Marley family teamed up with a video contesting platform called Tongal to create a new, official “One Love” music video! Fans and filmmakers alike were encouraged to submit 140-character theses of their video ideas, from which a subsequent treatment-submission round took shape, leading to a final video-submissions stage wherein multiple music videos from different fans from around the world took part.

Above is the winning submission, from the production team Painting In Pictures. We hope you enjoy, and stay tuned next month to check out second-place winner!
