Alborosie Meets King Jammy – Dub Of Thrones (2015)

VP Records/Greensleeves is happy to announce the April 14th, 2015 worldwide release of Alborosie Meets King Jammy – Dub Of Thrones, a historic pairing of one of Jamaica’s most pivotal dub legends King Jammy with the modern day Italian-born dubmaster Alborosie. The album includes a fully-illustrated package by Tony McDermott, Greensleeves Records’ go-to artist for almost four decades known for his iconic cartoon imagery depicting Jamaican music. The mostly instrumental collection will be available on CD, limited edition vinyl and digitally.

Mixed by Alborosie at his Shengen studio and King Jammy at his studio in the Waterhouse district of Kingston, this old-school meets new-school clash delivers an authentic dub reggae listening experience. With speaker-shaking, neighbor-waking and no-prisoner taking bass, this is designed to be played at high volume for maximum effect.

Alborosie and King Jammy plan to tour in support of this release throughout the summer. Dates will be announced at another time.

Alborosie

The first Italian reggae artist to be internationally recognised, Alberto D’ Ascola (aka Alborosie) was born in Sicily in 1977.
He formed his first band “Reggae National Tickets” in 1992 and they quickly reached success selling more than 200,000 records.
They were the first Italian band to play at Sunsplash and Sumfest in Jamaica in the Nineties.
After their success in Italy, Alborosie moved to Jamaica in 2000. His friendship with John Baker (ex-producer of Pm Dawn and member of Island Records) was decisive: he began to work in Baker’s Geejam studio in the Jamaican countryside and, little by little, he worked as a sound engineer and producer for international artists such as Wyclef, Angie Stone and Sisco.
He also recorded Manu Chao and Nubians at the time of their visits on the island.
Thanks to his talent as a producer, he managed the group Digicel Rising. After this experience, he labelled his first record Alborosie on his own label Forward Music in 2004.
Despite some good tracks, most notably Burnin’ and Lootin with Ky-mani Marley, he would have to wait until 2006 to reach international recognition with Herbalist which was considered best song of the year by David Rodigan.
Alborosie becomes the first white artist to be distributed in Jamaica by Bob Marley’s label, Tuff Gong.
Above his work as a producer (e.i. XXL Riddim, with the voices of Gentleman, Sizzla, Luciano, Ky-mani Marley), he continues his own recordings (hits like “Kingston town”, “Slam bam”, “Police”) and featurings with: U-Roy on “Precious”, Sizzla on “Meditation”and Gentleman on “Celebration”.
His first solo album, “Soul Pirate”, was released in September 2008 under the Forward Recordings label. This first album was preceded by a limited edition distributed during the European tour.
“Soul Pirate” voices the best reggae deejay in the world, David Rodigan, which samples his own track that made him famous in the world of reggae music.
In 2009 Alborosie closed his own record label to begin working with Shang Yeng Clan studios, which launched the young artist I-eye with the single “Mama She Don’t Like You”.
In 2009 Alborosie returned to Italy and Europe supported by “Shengen Clan Band” to present his new album, “Escape from Babylon“, presenting 16 exclusive tracks featuring famous artists such as Dennis Brown and Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage. “Escape from Babylon” was released by the legendary label, Greensleeves Records, founded in London in 1975 by Chris Sedgwick and Chris Cracknell. It was later purchased in 2008 by VP Records, which produced artists like Shabba Ranks, Sizzla, Dennis Brown, Elephant Man and Vybz Kartel alongside historical reggae anthems such as Sean Paul’s “Get Busy”, Shaggy’s “Oh Carolina” and Beenie Man’s “Who Am I”.
The first months of 2010 saw Alborosie engaged in a world tour that included dates in Mexico and California. Alongside his tour of the USA, Alborosie released the album “Escape From Babylon To The Kingdom of Zion” which unlike his previous album includes 18 tracks with new songs like: “Boo Blue Movie” and “Stepping Out” featuring David Hines (frontman of Steel Pulse, the reggae band that won a Grammy Award in 1986).
In July 2010, Alborosie released the album “Dub Clash“. Albo himself plays on most of the tracks, drums, bass, keyboards, guitar and percussion, along some of the musicians from the shengen clan. “Dub clash” is recorded and mixed at Shengen Studio kingston jamaica by Alborosie and is the first dub album from jamaica in a long time with that authentic roots spring reverb sound. Dedicated to King Tubby “The most incredible producer ever lived, the teacher”, Albo offers the following information: “This album was entirely made in Kingston Jamaica with original organic vintage effects, Roland Space Echo, Fisher spring reverb, ak 9 spring reverb, Ak 47 spring reverb, Fairchild reverb, Multivox delasy, eli delay, MCI 2 tracks, Tascam 24 track.” He also reveals “Real dubwise should be the parmiggiano on a great plate of pasta… other than that!!! I Don’t know what u talking about.”
